The Rackmason platform

One hyperconverged platform instead of a stack.

Compute, storage, networking, backup and file shares on servers your business owns, from one vendor that stands behind the hardware and the software.

What it replaces

Less to buy, less to manage.

It replaces

  • Separate servers
  • The SAN
  • The backup box
  • A separate tool for each

You get

  • One system
  • One place to manage it
  • Growth by adding a server

What it does

What the platform does.

What you need

What the platform does

  • Stay up when a server fails

Workloads restart on the other servers.

  • Work on a server without an outage

Workloads move between servers without stopping.

  • Keep data safe

More than one copy of every piece of data. Full protection is restored on its own.

  • Catch silent corruption

Stored data is checked continuously, and silent corruption is repaired.

  • Update without downtime

Updates roll through one server at a time while workloads keep running.

  • Back up and restore

Backup is built in. Any backup product that supports the platform's hypervisor works.

  • Keep a copy somewhere else

Backups can be copied to a second site you choose.

  • Share files

File shares (NAS) are served from the platform, as standard.

  • Grow

Add a server, including newer servers alongside the ones you have.

  • Control traffic

A built-in firewall for every server and every virtual machine.

  • Go into service quickly

Deployed in minutes with Rackmason's own build process and automation, once the hardware is in place.

Sovereign

Sovereign, in four plain facts.

Ownership

Your business owns the hardware, the software, the documentation and every password.

Data control

Your data stays on your own servers, on your own premises.

No licence dependency

No licence to renew and no per-core licence. Nobody can switch it off.

A Canadian vendor

Rackmason is based in Vancouver, BC.

Rackmason holds the software subscription and deals with the software vendor. The subscription covers support and updates, not the right to run the software. If support ever stops, the software keeps running, legally licensed, at the version installed.

One vendor

One vendor for the hardware and the software.

When Rackmason supplies the hardware, one warranty covers the hardware and the software together. Support is by email and phone, like any other vendor. Terms are set in your contract.

Already own suitable servers? Rackmason can build the platform on them. The hardware then stays under its maker's warranty.

Built to production standards

Built to production standards.

  • Designed around your workloads, and approved by you before anything is built.
  • Spare capacity, so the cluster keeps running when a server fails and while each server is updated.
  • Separate networks for cluster and storage traffic.
  • The software vendor's stable, supported update channel, never test builds.
  • Restores tested before handover.
  • A server failure tested before handover.
  • A written handover plan.

What it's built on

What it's built on.

The Rackmason platform is built on Proxmox VE, with Ceph storage and Proxmox Backup Server: open-source software with commercial support. Rackmason's work is the design, the hardware, the build, the automation and the services around the platform. Your proposal and handover documents name every component and version.
